The Fuzzy Kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa or Actinidia chinensis var. deliciosa) botanically belongs to the Actinidiaceae family. It is a large-sized perennial, deciduous, fruit-bearing woody climbing shrub, the height of which can reach 5.0 to 9.0 m. The Fuzzy Kiwifruit plant seeks sunny positions and is very resistant to very low temperatures, even when they reach -9 °C (although it can withstand -12 °C but is damaged), as well as to high temperatures. It is grown in medium to heavy soils, with an acidic to neutral reaction (5.1-7.5, optimum: 6.5-7), which drain well and contain high levels of organic matter. Fuzzy Kiwifruit flower from late spring to early summer. They are dioecious plants (in separate individuals the males from the female flowers) and in order to fruit they need 1 male for every 8-9 females. The Fuzzy Kiwifruit is harvested from August to October (depending on the variety or cultivar), when the brown berry fruits ripen. The fruits of the Fuzzy Kiwifruit have nutritional properties but also provide health benefits. They can be eaten fresh and/or added to salads. Note that the plants offered here are grafted, having male and female flowers on the same plant, and therefore can bear fruit even if only one or a few of them are planted. This is sufficient to cover domestic consumption of kiwifruit.
