The Sea Buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) is a fruit-bearing deciduous shrub or small tree with thorny shoots and silvery lanceolate leaves. It has separate male and female plants (dioecious species) and to produce fruits it needs at least one male per 5 to 9 females. Orange or red fruits are characterized as "superfood" of great value. It has no special requirements for cultivation, it is always planted in sunny places, while it has excellent tolerance to very low and high temperatures, to salt droplets and saline soils, as well as to drought - when fully installed. Sea buckthorn is also highly valued for its ability to stabilize soils that are at risk of erosion.
