Plant of the Mediterranean countries and the Middle East Common Fig (Ficus carica L.) is one of the most popular fruit trees with a long history in the Greek area. The great nutritional value of figs and its relatively easy cultivation contributed to this. The fig is a deciduous tree that thrives in a variety of soil types and in warm and cool climates while withstanding atmospheric pollution. Its cultivation takes place in areas with altitudes from sea level to 1700 m. It fruiting from the 4th to the 5th year until the 30th-40th. The figs are consumed fresh or dry - especially for the dried ones there are various traditional recipes, each of which produces a special flavor of dried fruit. The most common varieties of figs are Common Fig Vassiliki (royal figs), Common Fig White Polyphori and Common Fig Black Polyphori.
