Key Lime Tree (Citrus x aurantiifolia)

The Key Lime (Citrus × aurantiifolia) belongs botanically to the genus Citrus and the Rutaceae family. It is a small evergreen thorny tree whose height can reach 4 to 5 m. Seeks sunny places, sheltered from strong winds, in warm areas without the presence of frost. It is grown in fertile, medium-textured soils, which are acidic or slightly acidic (5.5-6.5), non-calcareous, and well drained. The Key Lime has oval, glossy, bright green leaves with small stipules, and relatively large, yellowish-white flowers with violet margins, mainly hermaphroditic, with a pleasant fragrant. The flowering of the tree is observed mostly in Spring and Summer and ripens its fruits, which look like spherical small green lemons, in Autumn and Winter.
