Pink Quill (Tillandsia cyanea-syn. Wallisia cyanea) Plant. An extremely attractive flowering epiphyte that is often found as an ornamental mainly indoors. Botanically, Pink Quill belongs to the Bromeliad family (Bromeliaceae), and is native to the tropical forests of Ecuador. It is a small species, which can reach a height of up to 50 cm. It is a perennial, evergreen plant with a dense crown. The leaves, which are arranged in rosettes, are glossy, arcuate-arch, oblong-lanceolate and dark green in colour, sometimes with a brownish-red base. From the heart of the rosette and absent floral stem, a particularly decorative set of bracts, wing-shaped and pink-violet in colour, grows up to 20 cm long. The bracts can remain on the epiphyte for up to 6 months, from which the true flowers, which are fragrant and have a pansy-shaped corolla consisting of three blue-violet petals, will emerge in summer. Each flower lasts from 1 to 3 days and the flowering period lasts from 1 to 3 months. Pink Quill - although an epiphyte and air plant- is perfectly adapted to growing in a pot. For its smooth growth, the foliage can be sprayed or the pot can be watered to add water and nutrients regularly or relatively regularly - depending on the conditions. It should also be placed in positions of indirect exposure to sunlight and/or enhanced shade. In this way it will be able to beautify the environments in which it is placed for years to come.
