Chinese Taro (Alocasia cucullata) Herb Plant. An excellent interior decoration plant, Chinese Taro belongs to the Araceae family. It probably originates from the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia. It is a small to medium-sized corm plant, which can reach a height of about 1 m. Alocasia cucullata is a perennial, herbaceous flowering plant with clumping habit. The main ornamental feature of the plant is the foliage. The leaves emerge from stems at the base of the plant, borne on long petioles 30 to 80 cm long. They are large, simple, leathery, ovate-cordate with entire margins and green-coloured laminae. The flower, rarely formed on cultivated plants, is a spadix semi-enclosed by a spathe. Chinese Taro is an easy-to-grow plant, has no serious pest and disease problems, has almost zero maintenance requirements, and can be planted outdoors where climatic conditions allow. Its growth is favoured when it is placed in semi-shaded areas with high levels of humidity, where it does not receive direct sunlight. Chinese Taro is believed to bring good fortune and luck.
