Arrowhead Philodendron (Syngonium podophyllum) Vine Plant. A classic houseplant, the Arrowhead Philodendron is a member of the Araceae family. It is native to Latin America, between Mexico and Bolivia, but has also become established in several other tropical regions. It is a large climbing or bushy plant, which can grow to a height of over 23 m in its natural habitat, but in cultivation it rarely exceeds about 2 m. It is a perennial, evergreen broadleaf, which has a fast growth rate and an spreading habit. It produces aerial and climbing roots, which helps it to climb using the trunks of tropical jungle trees. The main ornamental element of the plant is again the leaves: large, simple, leathery, sagittate - arrow shaped with entire margins, they have green-coloured laminae, but varieties usually show white or creamy spots. The flower, rarely formed on cultivated plants, is a spadix semi-enclosed by a spathe. The Syngonium podophyllum is an easy-to-grow plant, it does not have serious pest and disease problems, has almost zero maintenance requirements, and can be planted outdoors where climatic conditions allow, making it - among other things - an excellent ground cover plant. Its growth is favoured when it is placed in semi-shaded areas with high humidity levels, where it does not receive direct sunlight. Arrowhead Philodendron is used both as a climbing plant and as a hanging plant.
► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the plant, such as the size of the pot, its height, and age. Large plants are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
