Tulip Tree or Tulipwood (Liriodendron tulipifera) Plant - Cold Hardy Trees. The Tulip Tree is botanically a member of the Magnoliaceae family. It is native to North America from Southern Ontario, Canada to Florida, United States. It is the tallest deciduous tree in temperate forests, reaching or exceeding 50m in height. It is a medium to fast growing plant, which has a spreading habit and a symmetrical open oval-pyramidal canopy shape. The leaves are simple, unusually orbiculate and sparsely lobed. They are pale green on the upper surface and softer green on the lower surface, but in autumn they take on attractive golden yellow hues. The impressive flowering of the plant - which is monoecious - occurs in late spring to early summer, in adults 6 to 8 years old and older. Its abundant, fragrant flowers are solitary and resemble those of tulips. They are cup-shaped, 3 to 6 cm long, and green on the outside with yellow and orange on the inside. The flowers are succeeded by brown-coloured fruits. The Tulip Tree or Tulipwood is a relatively easy tree to grow. It can be planted in almost any fertile soil type, as long as it is not alkaline-reactive and has excellent drainage. It can tolerate very low temperatures, but not drought and salinity. It can be used both in gardening and in landscape architecture, planted alone as an emblematic dominant plant (focal point), in groups as well as in compositions with other plants.
► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the tree, such as the size of the pot, its height, and age. Large trees are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
