European Beech (Fagus sylvatica) Tree

European Beech (Fagus sylvatica) Tree - Cold Hardy Trees. European Beech belongs botanically to the family Fagaceae (Fagaceae). It is native to Central and Southern Europe and the Caucasus. In Greece it grows naturally, creating extensive forests. It is an imposing, century-old, deciduous tree whose height reaches up to 50m. It is a slow-growing plant, which has a spreading appearance and a symmetrical round or oval canopy shape. The leaves are simple, smooth, ovate or elliptical in shape with undulate and fringed margins. Their colour is dark green on the upper surface and pale green on the lower surface, but in autumn they take on attractive golden coppery tones. The plant - which is monoecious - blooms without any particular aesthetic interest from mid to late spring. The flowers are followed by brown fruits. European Beech is a relatively easy tree to grow. It can be planted in almost any soil type, as long as it has very good drainage and retains the necessary moisture. The fertile, humus soil favors the unhindered growth of the tree. It tolerates very low temperatures, but not very high temperatures or salinity. It is utilized in both gardening and landscape architecture, planted alone as an iconic dominant (focal) plant, in groups as well as in compositions with other plants. It can create excellent tree rows, formal hedges as well as windbreaks.

► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the tree, such as the size of the pot, its height, and age. Large trees are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
