Spanish Oak (Quercus palustris) Tree - Fast-Growing Trees. The Spanish Oak is a native of the swampy (hence the name) western regions of the United States and belongs botanically to the Fagaceae family. It is a large deciduous tree, fast-growing, rapidly deciduous, which takes on a pyramidal - broadly spherical shape. Its leaves are simple, strongly elliptic, elliptic-ovate, bright green, which in autumn take on a wonderful reddish hue. Flowering occurs in late spring with yellowish-green flowers borne on a catkin inflorescence. The flowers are succeeded by brown-coloured fruits, the acorns. The Spanish Oak is an easy-to-grow tree. It grows in almost any soil type, acidic to neutral reaction (not calcareous), even if waterlogged.  It is used both in gardening and in landscape architecture, planted alone, in groups and in compositions with other trees.
