Japanese Banana (Musa japonica-syn. Musa basjoo) Plant - Tropical Ornamental Plants. The Japanese Banana is the most frost-resistant species of this class of plants. It is purely ornamental since the bananas it produces are not edible. Although its name suggests that it originates from Japan, this is not the case but it comes from southern China and botanically belongs to the Musaceae family. It is an herbaceous perennial, evergreen and rhizomatous plant that resembles a tree and is small in size, reaching a height of about 4.5 m. It has a fast growth rate, upright habit and an umbrella-shaped canopy. The main ornamental feature of the plant is its impressive large leaves. They are simple, smooth, green-coloured, elongated-lanceolate in shape, with laminae often reaching up to 2 m. The leaf laminae are often torn by wind tension and then resemble giant wings. The Japanese Banana is a fairly easy-to-grow plant. It can be planted in a variety of outdoor environments as it can withstand low temperatures (surviving by rhizome) and almost any soil type, as long as it has plenty of organic matter and excellent drainage. It can be used both in horticulture and in landscape architecture, planted alone as a plant of particular beauty, in groups and in compositions with other plants. Thanks to its resistance to salt droplets, it can even be planted in seaside gardens. Thanks to its resistance to salt spray, it can even be planted in seaside gardens.
► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the palm and tropical plant, such as the size of the pot, its height, age and shape. Large palms and tropicals are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
