The Dwarf Date Palm or Robellini Palm (Phoenix roebelenii) botanically belongs to the Arecaceae or Palmae family. It is native to the Far East, specifically China, Laos and Vietnam. It is a small palm tree, which can reach a height of 7 m in its natural habitat, but in cultivation it rarely exceeds 3 m. It also grows on more than one trunk in its natural habitat, but in cultivation it has only one rough and thin trunk. The Dwarf Date Palm is an evergreen, dioecious, slow-growing and upright-looking plant. It has arching, compound pinnately leaves with about 100 slightly drooping leaflets each, dark green or greyish-green in colour, which are pubescent on both sides. In spring it blooms in cream or creamy white flowers on inflorescences of panicles. This is followed by small red-brown to dark purple coloured ellipsoidal fruits. The Robellini Palm is easily grown in any type of soil, preferably fertile and moist, with excellent drainage. It is also exploited as an indoor plant while it is planted in parks, squares, street islands, pavements and gardens, as well as in professional environments.
► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the palm plant, such as the size of the pot, its height, age and shape. Large palms are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
