Barrel Cactus 'Brevispinus' (Ferocactus horridus 'Brevispinus'-syn. Ferocactus peninsulae 'Brevispinus') Plant - Cactuses & Succulents. An attractive looking cactus with a ribbed stem, dark green in color, and even its spines are decorative. The difference between this variety and the typical species is the central spine, which is shorter but thicker and stronger. The 'Brevispinus' cactus is moderate to fast growing and has a spherical, barrel-like shape that becomes cylindrical over time. It has 16 to 24 elongated, slightly spiral ribs. It has white to off-white areoles slightly puberulent, from which arise up to 10 radially arranged spines plus the central one, which color are red to deep purple-black. The central spine is slightly hooked or just with a slight kink at the end, and its colour at maturity may become chalky. The Ferocactus 'Brevispinus' blooms in mid to late spring, with beautiful and large orange-yellow flowers. The flowers are succeeded by small, fleshy fruits of a pale yellow colour. Ferrocactus horridus 'Brevispinus' is a hardy dry plant suitable for potting, gravel garden soil or rock gardens. It is used in both gardening and landscape architecture to create - among other things - dry landscape compositions (xeriscaping).
► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the cactus, such as the size of the pot, its height, and age. Large cacti are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
