Mexican Lime Cactus (Ferocactus pilosus-syn. Ferocactus stainesii var. pilosus) Plant - Cactuses & Succulents. This is another attractive-looking, slow-growing cactus with a ribbed stem, which is dark green in colour. It often branches from the base, forming an extremely attractive set of stacked columns with a hemispherical apex. It is initially spherical in shape which over time becomes elongated spherical. It shows 13 to 20 prominent ribs, from which the rounded areoles develop. Several central spines grow from the areoles, which are straight or slightly convex, more or less flattened and angular, bright purple-red in colour, turning dull yellow as they mature. Of course, it should be noted that in some populations of the species there are individuals with yellow-coloured spines. The radially ordered spines are either sometimes completely absent or usually turn into white or straw-coloured hairs. The Mexican Lime Cactus blooms from late spring to late summer, bearing beautiful bright orange flowers with yellow stigmas yellow which are borne from the apical aureoles. The flowers are succeeded by succulent yellow-coloured fruits, resembling small lemons. Mexican Lime Cactus (Ferocactus pilosus) is an extremely hardy xerophyte plant suitable for potting, gravel garden soil or rock gardens. It is used in both gardening and landscape architecture to create - among other things - dry landscape compositions (xeriscaping).
► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the cactus, such as the size of the pot, its height, and age. Large cacti are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
