Nile Grass (Cyperus papyrus) Plant - Aquatic, Pond & Wetland Plants. Perennial herbaceous aquatic plant of considerable ornamental value, which forms extensive clusters over time. It is a member of the genus Cyperus, which belongs to the family Cyperaceae (Sedges). The Nile Grass has a fast growth rate, medium to large size, and an erect appearance. Its green, triangular-shaped linear stems (culms) grow from the woody and superficial rhizome, which is covered with thick brownish-black scales. These papery and triangular scales are actually reduced leaves. At the top ends of each stem there are numerous hanging, smaller, spherical stems. On top of these, in summer, umbelliferous inflorescences develop, bearing the plant's ornamentally uninteresting brownish-coppery flowers. The flowers are succeeded by brown-coloured nut-like fruits. Nile Grass (Cyperus papyrus) is an easy-to-grow and very hardy plant that is adapted to a variety of soil types. It is used both in gardening and in landscape architecture to create, among other things, a variety of compositions. Of course, Nile Grass is used not only for decorative purposes but also in several other ways (herb, food, etc.), and thanks to it and after special processing, the famous paper of the same name has been produced since antiquity.
► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the plant, such as the size of the pot, its height, age and shape. Large plants are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
