Japanese Blood Grass (Imperata cylindrica ‘Red Baron’-syn. Imperata cylindrica 'Rubra' or Imperata cylindrica var. koenigii) Plant - Aquatic, Pond & Wetland Plants. Perennial deciduous herbaceous plant of great ornamental value, which forms extensive clusters over time. It belongs to the Gramineae (syn. Poaceae), has a fast growth rate, small to medium size, and an upright appearance. The leaves are linear or oblong-lanceolate, and their colour, which is the main ornamental element, is green at the base and deep red to orange from the midsection to tip. The intensity of the colour increases with the succession of seasons, reaching a peak at the onset of winter. Japanese Blood Grass (Imperata cylindrica 'Red Baron') is an easy-to-grow and very hardy plant, adaptable to a variety of soil types with excellent drainage. It is used in both gardening and landscape architecture to create, among other things, a variety character of compositions.
Note:
Although Red Baron is not invasive to begin with, however, it is possible that over the years it may lose its special characteristics and continue to grow only as Imperata cylindrica. Imperata cylindrica is a highly invasive species and behaves as a difficult to control aggressive weed. For this reason it should not be planted outside urban areas or, if planted, requires special care and supervision.
► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the plant, such as the size of the pot, its height, age and shape. Large plants are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
