Frogfruit (Phyla nodiflora-syn. Lippia nodiflora) Plant - Flowering Plants. The Frogfruit botanically belongs to the Verbenaceae family and probably originates from the two American continents. It is a herbaceous, perennial and evergreen plant, with a medium to fast growth rate, a creeping habit, a dense canopy and a height of about 30 cm. The leaves are light green with slightly purple tones, simple, ovate or oblanceolate, with serrated margins from the middle to the edge of the lamina. Profuse flowering occurs from about late spring to mid-autumn. The bi-labiate flowers are white-red, borne on a corymb inflorescence. The Frogfruit is an easy-to-grow plant, adaptable to a variety of soil types and environments. It can withstand high temperatures, calcareous soil and short periods of drought. However, it establishes more quickly in organic-rich soils with excellent drainage and in full sun or partially shaded areas. It can be used in many ways, as a lawn plant, for soil retention planted on slopes at risk of erosion, and even in rock gardens. Still, thanks to its resistance to salt sprays, it is even planted in seaside gardens.
Notes:
Due to the high reproductive capacity of Phyla nodiflora, strict mowing of the plant before seed maturation is recommended - otherwise it becomes a weed. If this is not possible, it is best not to plant it outside urban areas.
► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the plant, such as the size of the pot, its height, age and shape. Large plants are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
