Cape Honeysuckle (Tecomaria capensis) Plant

Cape Honeysuckle (Tecomaria capensis-syn. Bignonia capensis) Plant - Vine Flowering Plants. The Cape Honeysuckle, belongs botanically to the Trumpet Vines (Bignoniaceae) family. It is native to the subtropical regions of the southern African continent. It is a medium-large sized climbing or bushy plant, which can reach a height of 10 m in its natural habitat, but in cultivation it rarely exceeds about 3 m. It is a perennial and evergreen, with a fast growth rate, medium canopy density and an erect or semierect-scandent habit. The leaves are odd compound pinnately, smooth-textured, oval-shaped with entire margins, the lamina of which is bright green in colour. The monoecious flowers, borne on a racemose inflorescence, are bright orange-red in colour, tubular in shape and support a long period of flowering, which may occur throughout the year. The Cape Honeysuckle is an easy-to-grow plant, has no serious pest and disease problems (with the exception of sometimes woolly whitefly), has minimal maintenance requirements, and can even be planted under pine trees. However, its growth is favoured when it is placed in direct light or semi-shaded areas, with normal humidity levels, and fertile soils with excellent drainage. The Cape Honeysuckle is utilized both as a shrub and as a climbing shrub for hedge creation. It is also planted alone, or in group plantings and compositions. Its good tolerance to salt sprays also allows it to be grown in seaside gardens.

► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the plant, such as the size of the pot, its height, age and shape. Large plants are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
