False Sarsaparilla (Hardenbergia violacea) Vine Plant - Vine Flowering Plants. The False Sarsaparilla belongs botanically to the family Fabaceae or Leguminosae. It is native to various regions of the Australian continent. It is a medium to large-sized climbing plant (or prostrate subshrub), which, thanks to its twining ability, can reach a height of about 8 m, supported on trees or surfaces. It is perennial and evergreen, with a medium growth rate, high crown density and a climbing habit. The leaves are alternate, smooth-textured, ovate-lanceolate in shape with entire margins, the lamina of which is bright green in colour. The monoecious flowers, borne on racemes inflorescences, are violet-white in colour, bell-shaped, and appear from late winter to late spring. The False Sarsaparilla is a relatively easy plant to grow, but it is not at all tolerant of very low temperatures and calcareous soils. Its growth is favoured when it is placed in sunny or semi-shaded areas, with normal moisture levels, and soils of medium fertility with excellent drainage. The False Sarsaparilla is utilized as a climbing plant for creating a hedge, as well as in pergolas or trellises. It is also planted alone, or in group plantings and compositions. Its good tolerance to salt sprays also allows it to be grown in seaside gardens.
► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the plant, such as the size of the pot, its height, age and shape. Large plants are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
