The Bluecrown Passionflower (Passiflora caerulea) is a semi-evergreen climbing plant, extremely sturdy. It has five-lobed green leaves and peculiar large flowers, 10cm in diameter, with a light blue-purple color (rarely white to pink) with tricolor filaments that resemble a clock. The flowering period begins in summer and lasts until the beginning of autumn. Flowering is followed by yellow-orange oval-shaped fruits, which are not edible. It loves sunny planting locations, is not affected by wind currents and is suitable for planting in areas with intense air pollution. However, its position must be protected, as it is particularly sensitive to the cold. The plant is extremely resistant to poor or stony soils, but thrives in fertile and moderately moist soils, with very good drainage. The shoots of the Bluecrown Passionflower are twining so that help it climb and due to its ability to grow rapidly it is considered an ideal plant for immediate coverage of fences, lattice, pergolas or walls. Without being particularly demanding in care, Bluecrown Passionflower seeks regular watering during the vegetative season and benefits greatly from a hard pruning at the end of winter.
► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the plant, such as the size of the pot, its height, age and shape. Large shrubs are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
