The Five-Leaf Akebia (Akebia quinata) is a perennial deciduous vine plant. It has compound palmate leaves of green color, and dark red or purple, chocolate-like fragrance flowers, which are carried on a raceme inflorescence. Flowering occurs from mid to late spring. The edible fruits are elliptical follicles, are blue-violet in color and contain abundant seeds. The Akebias are easy-to-grow plants that grow well in well-drained, rich in organic matter, medium-textured soil. They thrive in sunny places, but can also withstand light partial shade - yet with reduced fruiting. The Five-Leaf Akebia, although not very widespread in Greece, is extremely decorative during the flowering and fruiting period. It can be used, among other things, in plantings to cover any type of pergola and trellis, as well as to create a natural plant fence.
► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the plant, such as the size of the pot, its height, age and shape. Large shrubs are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
