Baby Sun Rose (Aptenia cordifolia-syn. Mesembryanthemum cordifolium) Succulent Plant - Succulents. Perennial, evergreen flowering succulent of particular ornamental value that creates wonderful carpets. Botanically it belongs to the Stone plants family (Aizoaceae), originating in South Africa. It grows from a woody base, and its simple, opposite, oval or cordate green leaves are borne on decumbent stems, each up to 60 cm long. Flowering often occurs in spring and lasts until autumn. The single flowers are reddish-fuchsia in colour with a yellow centre, a shape reminiscent of that of the Aster plants, close at night and attract butterflies and other insects.
