Red Headed Irishman 'Un Pico' (Mammillaria spinosissima 'Un Pico') Plant - Cactuses & Succulents. Highly ornamental perennial cactus plant of small size with an erect form. The variety 'Un Pico' has a fast growth rate, is usually a single cactus although it sometimes presents lateral stems from the base, whose colour is dark glaucous-green. The columnar-shaped stems show grooves due to small conical tubercles which are arranged in spirals. A few soft, white hairs grow in the area (axillary) around the bases of the tubercles. At the top of them are the areoles, from which 1 to 4 straight central spines (sometimes none), white in colour, grow, while the radial ones are completely absent. Flowering occurs in spring, when red-purple flowers develop from the areoles around the top of the stems, forming an impressive ring. The flowers are succeeded by greenish or red fruits. Red Headed Irishman 'Un Pico' (Mammillaria spinosissima 'Un Pico') is a hardy xerophyte plant suitable for potting, gravel or stony garden soil or rock gardens. It is used in both gardening and landscape architecture to create - among other things - dry landscape compositions (xeriscaping).
► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the cactus, such as the size of the pot, its height, and age. Large cacti are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
