Pincushion Cactus magnifica (Mammillaria magnifica) Plant - Cactuses & Succulents. Perennial cacti of particular ornamental value, small size and upright form. It is a fast-growing plant, with many lateral stems from the base that form clusters. The glaucous-green cylindrical stems show grooves which are due to tubercles - tubercles arranged in spirals. In the area (axil) around the bases of the tubercles white hairs grow protectively. The areoles are attached to the top of the tubercles, from which 18 to 24 radial spines, 3 to 8 mm long, of a vitreous white or yellow colour, grow. The central yellowish-brown to brown spines are 4-5 to 8, 15-55 mm long, straight and robust, the smallest curving inwards like a hook. It is worth noting here that this species of Mammillaria is also one of the few in the genus whose surface is completely covered by the spines. Flowering is observed from late winter to early spring. The flowers, purplish-red or pinkish red, develop from the areoles around the top of the stems, forming a striking ring. The flowers are succeeded by pink fruits with green tips, 5 to 22 mm long. Pincushion Cactus magnifica (Mammillaria magnifica) is a hardy xerophyte plant suitable for potting, gravel or stony garden soil or rock gardens. It is used in both gardening and landscape architecture to create - among other things - dry landscape compositions (xeriscaping).
► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the cactus, such as the size of the pot, its height, and age. Large cacti are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
