Yellow Rabbit Ear Cactus (Opuntia microdasys-Yellow) Plant - Cactuses & Succulents. Extremely interesting perennial cactus of particular decorative value that forms thickets. It has a moderate growth rate, small size, erect to creeping bushy habit and is strongly branched. The green, flattened, elongated to spherical cladodes (transformed stems -"leaves") have only rare, typical spines. The young cladodes usually grow in twos from the mature ones and give the impression of rabbit ears - hence the English common name for the plant, Rabbit Ear. The cladodes show the areoles in a diagonal arrangement of 9 to 16, which bear numerous yellow-coloured glochids ( hair-like small spines). The cactus flowering occurs from late spring to late summer. The cup-shaped flowers, yellow with red tints, which grow from the ends of the cladodes, are produced in abundance. They are perfect, 4 to 5 cm long and 2.5-3 to 4 cm in diameter. The flowers are succeeded by edible capsule fruits, dark red in colour. The fruits, 2 to 3 cm long, are fleshy, spherical and bear numerous areoles with many dense glochids. Yellow Rabbit Ear Cactus (Opuntia microdasys-Yellow) is a hardy hardy xerophyte plant suitable for potting, gravel or stony garden soil or rock gardens. It is used in both gardening and landscape architecture to create - among other things - dry landscape compositions (xeriscaping).
► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the cactus, such as the size of the pot, its height, and age. Large cacti are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
