Pink Silk Tree (Akαkia of Constantinople) originates from southwestern and eastern Asia. Its populations are found in a very large area, which is bounded to the south by Iran, north of Azerbaijan, China and Korea and east of Japan and Taiwan. Her name was taken by Italian colonel D 'Albizzi, who carried her from Constantinople to Tuscany in the middle of the 18th century. And if her name is purely european her surname is persian and means 'silky flower' - echoing reality. The US was first introduced in 1745.
It is a tree of medium height, deciduous, with a fast annual growth rate and is umbrella-like. The bark of the tree is gray and has some roughness. Its leaves are complex, consisting of 30-50 leaflets, small and oblique, which give them the characteristic perpetual texture. They are extremely sensitive to touch and close, as they close in the evening, reacting to the lack of light. Its slightly aromatic flowers, which flood the tree in the summer, are absent and its beautiful pink color owes it to the numerous elongated stamens. Its fruit is narrow-faced, like beans. It produces numerous seeds, 1.5 cm long, which in the natural condition of the tree if they find water grow with great ease. He lives about 50 years.
It is propagated by seeds. For greater germination, the seeds are soaked in water for 24 hours.
Silk tree grows equally well in acidic and calcareous soils, but thrives in fertile slightly sandy and at pH 6.5-7. It is satisfactorily salt-resistant and extremely resistant to soil salinity.
It is not affected by frost, it can withstand strong winds, it has excellent growth in dry conditions and its cultivation zone reaches up to 900 m altitude with a low temperature limit of -17 to -20 °C.
If it is not allowed to grow freely, its pruning takes place in the winter.
The fertilization of Akakia in Constantinople is carried out by the administration of a 1:1:1 type of fertilizer in the spring, which can then be replaced with a fertilizer of the type 1:1:1,5 when flowering.
In addition to the fusarium (due to the fungus Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. perniciosum), no other pests or diseases are recorded.
Can be planted individually or in groups in the garden.
It is suitable for the creation of exceptional tree rows, but care should be taken not to plant near paved surfaces because it can lift them.
It is offered for planting in coastal areas.
It can be planted in parks and squares where in a relatively short period of time it will reach full development.
