Ladyfinger Cactus 'Lemon' (Mammillaria elongata 'Lemon') Plant - Cactuses & Succulents. A particularly popular, ornamental, small-sized cactus perennial with an erect to semi-prostrate form. The Lemon variety has a slow growth rate and many lateral stems from the base, whose colour is bright green. The cylindrical-shaped stems have grooves due to short conical tubercles - tubercles arranged in spirals. It is characteristic that, unlike all other species of the genus Mammillaria, the area (axillae) around the bases of the tubercles is bare and hairless. At the top of the tubercles are the round and woolly areoles. From the areoles radiate 15-25 to 30 short, golden-yellow spines which often intersect with those of the adjacent areoles. The central spines are from 1 to 3, although most often absent. The Ladyfinger Cactus 'Lemon' blooms in spring to early summer, from the top areoles of the stems, with flowers usually white, but also pink or creamy yellow. The flowers are succeeded by pink-red spherical or cylindrical edible fruits. Ladyfinger Cactus 'Lemon' (Mammillaria elongata 'Lemon') is a hardy xerophyte plant suitable for potting, gravel or stony garden soil or rock gardens. It is used in both gardening and landscape architecture to create - among other things - dry landscape compositions (xeriscaping).
► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the cactus, such as the size of the pot, its height, and age. Large cacti are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
