Downy Birch Tree (Betula pubescens)

Downy Birch is an excellent appearance of medium-sized deciduous tree. It has a moderate to rapid growth rate and an oval-pyramid shape. Of particular decorative value is the grayish white bark of her trunk. In addition to calcareous soils, Downy Birch can be planted in any soil type, even in soils that are short-term flooding. Although it is a plant of the cold regions of Europe and its southernmost natural limit of spreading to Greece is found in Macedonia and the Rhodope Mountains, it has also shown satisfactory adaptation to plantings in warm regions of southern Greece. It does not has particular problems with enemies and diseases and is appropriately exploited in gardening and landscape architecture.
