Corn Plant (Dracaena fragrans) botanically belongs to the Asparagaceae family, and is native to the tropical regions of the African continent. It is a perennial, broad-leaved, evergreen species, slow-growing and erect, with dense canopy and a size of up to about 3 metres under very favourable growing conditions, and in its natural habitat it reaches a height of 15 metres. On the stems, leaves appear in a spiral arrangement, which are green, leathery and lanceolate in shape. Compact Corn Plant blooms - although rarely in the pot - with very fragrant (especially at night), white, pink or red flowers borne on a panicle inflorescence. This is followed by red-orange small spherical-ovoid fruits, up to 1,5 cm in size. Compact Corn Plant is a relatively easy-to-grow plant since it adapts to almost any possible exposure to light, temperature fluctuations and watering frequency. It can be planted in the garden (where the climate permits) or in pots, making a wonderful decoration for homes, offices and business premises. It should be noted here that it also belongs to the air purifying plants (formaldehyde and trichloroethylene) that saw their fame skyrocket when they were included in the famous NASA survey.
