Chinese Red Date (Ziziphus jujuba) Tree - Deciduous Ornamental Trees. The Chinese Red Date botanically belongs to the Rhamnaceae family. It is native to regions of Southeastern Europe and the Far East. It is a deciduous tree (or shrub), multi-stemed or with single trunk, small in size, reaching a height of up to about 10 m, which produces edible fruits - cicadas. It has a medium growth rate, an upright-open appearance, a spherical-oval shape of irregular outline and a medium-dense crown. The leaves are simple, smooth, green, oval-shaped, with serrated or serrated margins. The fragrant flowering of the single tree occurs from late spring to early summer. This is followed by oval-shaped, edible fruits, initially green in colour and brownish-purple at maturity, with a length of between 1,5 and 3 cm. The Chinese Red Date tree is a fairly easy tree to grow. It can be planted in a variety of outdoor environments as it can withstand low temperatures, drought, urban air pollution and is adaptable to almost any soil type as long as it has excellent drainage. In addition to being planted as a species of agricultural interest, it is used for ornamental purposes by horticulture and landscape architecture. It is used alone or in group plantings as a shade tree, as well as for the creation of tree walls and windbreaks, but also as a natural shelter for birds and insects. Thanks to its resistance to salt sprays, it is even planted in coastal gardens.
► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the tree, such as the size of the pot, its height, and age. Large trees are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
