Pride of India (Koelreuteria paniculata-syn. Sapindus paniculata) Tree - Deciduous Ornamental Trees. The Pride of India or Goldenrain Tree botanically belongs to the Sapindaceae family. It is native to regions of East Asia and the Far East. It is a deciduous tree of medium size, with a height of up to about 15 m. It has a medium growth rate, an upright-open appearance, a spherical-vase shape of irregular outline and a medium-dense canopy. The leaves are compound οdd-pinnate, bipinnate, obovate, smooth, green, ovate, with margins toothed or serrate. The impressive flowering of the tree, which resembles a yellow rain of colour, occurs from early to mid-summer. The single flowers are bright golden yellow in colour and chanoid-steroidal in shape, borne on large panicle inflorescences. The very decorative Chinese lantern-like fruits follow. Initially green in colour and then orangey brown, they remain on the plant even when it sheds its leaves. The Pride of India or Goldenrain Tree is a fairly easy tree to grow. It can be planted in a variety of outdoor environments as it can withstand low temperatures, drought, urban air pollution and is adaptable to almost any soil type, as long as it has excellent drainage. Can be used both in gardening and in landscape architecture, planted as a specimen, in groups and also in compositions with other plants.
► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the tree, such as the size of the pot, its height, and age. Large trees are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
