The Bergamot Orange (Citrus bergamia) Tree belongs botanically to the genus Citrus and the Rutaceae family. It is a medium growth evergreen tree whose height can reach up to 12 m, but in cultivation usually the trees are pruned up to 4 - 5 metres. Seeks sunny places, in warm areas without the presence of frost. It is cultivated in fertile, medium soils, which have neutral reaction (6.5-7.5) and drain well. The Bergamot Orange has lanceolate, glossy, dark green leaves, and small, white, hermaphroditic flowers with a pleasant aroma. The flowering of the tree is observed mostly from the end of Winter to the middle of Spring and ripens its flattened sub-spherical fruits in Winter.
