Bengal Clockvine (Thunbergia grandiflora) Climbing Plant - Vine Flowering Plants. The Bengal Clockvine belongs botanically to the Acanthaceae family. It is native to various regions of the Far East with the Indian subcontinent as its westernmost limit. It is an extremely robust, large climbing plant, which, thanks to its twining stems, can reach a height of about 20 m when supported on trees or surfaces. It is perennial and evergreen, with a fast growth rate, medium-dense crown and a spreading habit. The leaves are opposite, simple, smooth-textured, ovate in shape with undulate margins, whose lamina is green in colour. The monoecious flowers, borne on axillary cyme inflorescences, are purple-violet in colour, funnel-shaped and appear from mid-spring to mid-autumn. The Bengal Clockvine is a relatively easy plant to grow, has no serious pest and disease problems (with the occasional exception of white fly) and has minimal maintenance requirements. The Bengal Clockvine is also used as an ornamental climber for creating hedges, as well as in pergolas or trellises. It is also planted alone, or in group plantings and compositions. And its satisfactory tolerance to salt sprays additionally allows it to be planted in seaside gardens.
► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the plant, such as the size of the pot, its height, age and shape. Large plants are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
