Variegated Miscanthus (Miscanthus sinensis 'Variegatus') Plant - Grass-like Plants. The Zebra Grass botanically belongs to the Poaceae family, and originates from the Far East. It is a herbaceous, rhizomatous, perennial and deciduous species, with a fast growth rate and a spherical-weeping appearance, with medium density canopy and a height that reaches approximately 2 meters. The 'Variegatus' variety is particularly ornamental. One of the main decorative elements of the plant is its linear arched bicolor leaves. Their green color varies elongated white-cream stripes until autumn when the entire foliage acquires golden yellowish shades. With the first cold weather, however, the color of the leaves turns brown or brownish-tan. Another excellent decorative element of the plant are its complex panicle inflorescences, approximately 2.50 meters high, which appear on thin stems from late summer and remain until the whole winter. The color of the inflorescences, which resemble tassels, ranges from pinkish-reddish to copper-red, and when they ripen, they turn into an attractive white-silver. The Zebra Grass is quite easy to cultivate, as it adapts to a wide variety of environments. It seeks sunny positions, withstands very low temperatures as well as almost any soil type, from acidic to slightly alkaline. It is utilized in many ways by both Gardening and Landscape Architecture. Among other things, it can even be planted in seaside gardens, creating a barrier to sea spray droplets.
Note:
The Miscanthus sinensis 'Variegatus' is a highly invasive species and behaves as a difficult to control aggressive weed. For this reason it should not be planted outside urban areas.
► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the plant, such as the size of the pot, its height, age and shape. Large plants are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
