Shrimp Plant (Justicia brandegeeana-syn. Beloperone guttata) Plant - Evergreen Flowering Shrubs. The Shrimp Plant botanically belongs to the Acanthaceae family and originates from areas of Mexico. It is a shrubby, perennial and evergreen plant, growing up to 1 m high. It has a moderate growth rate, an upright habit and a rather broad pyramidal shape. Its dark green leaves are simple, pubescent, ovate-lanceolate with entire or wavy margins. The dominant ornamental feature of the plant is the coloured bracts surrounding the small tubular flowers, which are mainly, but not only, present in the summer period. The colours of the bracteate leaves vary, but are usually lilac-red, red and pink. The Shrimp Plant is a fairly easy to grow shrub, which adapts to a variety of environments. However, it thrives in well-drained, fertile clay soils and in half-shaded areas, especially where summer temperatures are high. It can be used in many ways, such as in borders or hedges, and/or together with other herbaceous and shrubby plants to create colourful and other compositions. Furthermore, thanks to its resistance to salt spray, it is suitable for planting in coastal areas.
► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the shrub, such as the size of the pot, its height, and age. Large shrubs are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
