It is native to various regions of central and southwestern Asia. The Russian Sage is an easy-to-grow plant that is adapted to a variety of soil types (with excellent drainage) and environments. It has virtually no problems with pests and diseases and can withstand both very high and low temperatures and drought. It can be used in many ways, such as as a border plant, in mass plantings and in compositions with other plants as well as in pots and planters. Furthermore, thanks to its high resistance to salt sprays, it can also be planted in seaside gardens.
