Red Chihuahuan Sage (Salvia greggii) Herbaceous Plant - Flowering Plants. The Salvia botanically belongs to the Mint family (Lamiaceae or Labiatae) and is native to areas from Mexico to Southwest Texas. It is a herbaceous or woody sub-shrub, perennial and semi-evergreen plant, with a medium growth rate, rounded shape and rather arching habit, with a relatively dense canopy, reaching a height of about 90 cm. The slightly fragrant green leaves are simple, ovoid to elliptical, with entire margins. Flowering is abundant, ornamental and particularly long, occurring from the first warm spells of spring to the last of autumn. The flowers are red, fragrant, two-lipped and tubular flowers borne on a raceme inflorescence. The Red Chihuahuan Sage is a fairly easy-to-grow plant, adaptable to a variety of soil types and environments. However, it thrives in organic-rich soils, provided they have excellent drainage, and in areas of high sunshine. It can be used in many ways, such as as a border plant, rock garden plant or planted with other herbaceous to create colour and other compositions. Still, thanks to its resistance to sea spray droplets, it is even planted in coastal gardens.
► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the plant, such as the size of the pot, its height, age and shape. Large plants are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
