Pomelo or Pummelo (Citrus maxima-syn. Citrus grandis) Tree

The Pomelo or Pummelo botanically belongs to the Rutaceae family and its binomial name is Citrus maxima (syn. Citrus grandis). It is native to various regions of Southeast Asia. It is a perennial and evergreen citrus tree, reaching a height of about 15 m, with a trunk 10 to 30 cm thick. It has a fast growth rate, an upright habit with spreading branches, an ovate shape and a medium-dense canopy. The leaves are alternate, simple, leathery, ovate or oblong-ovate, with undulate margins, and are green in colour. The tree flowers from mid to late spring. The monoecious fragrant flowers, which are either singly or produced on raceme inflorescences, are stellate and white in colour. The very large edible fruits are initially green in colour, but when ripe the skin takes on a greenish-yellow to yellow tint and is dotted with green glands. The pericarp is thick, with a flesh that varies in colour from pale yellow to pink and usually tastes bitter. The Pomelo or Pummelo thrives in places with a tropical or subtropical climate, fertile, humusy, non-calcareous soils that are consistently cool but have excellent drainage, and, as regards exposure, full sunshine is conducive to the production of high-quality fruit.

It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the plant, such as the size of the pot, its height, age and shape. Large trees are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
