The Japanese Boxwood Faulkner (Buxus microphylla var. japonica 'Faulkner') is a medium-sized, highly hardy perennial evergreen shrub that botanically belongs to the family Buxaceae. It has a slow to medium growth rate and extremely high density foliage - denser than the typical species. The leaves are simple, opposite, leathery in texture, while their color is green. The flowers, which appear in spring, are white-cream, but have no special decorative value. The Japanese Boxwood Faulkner belongs to the easy cultivation plants, since it can be cultivated in almost any soil type that presents excellent drainage, except for the clay ones. It is highly tolerant to low temperatures, and generally to adverse climatic conditions. It is capable of light or strict pruning to create a variety of simple and complex shapes such as those of the ball, the pyramid, the rectangle, etc. The Japanese Boxwoods Faulkner are especially used for shaping free and formal style hedges. To create a hedge, they are planted at a distance of 30 - 35 cm from each other. They are pruned in the spring to stimulate the lateral growth of shoots and the creation of dense shrubs and borders.
► In winter, with temperatures dropping to very low levels, the leaves may show copper-red hues, which is an absolutely normal phenomenon.
► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the plant, such as the size of the pot, its height, age and shape. Large shrubs are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
