Almond Tree (Prunus dulcis)

Almond tree (Prunus dulcis, syn. Prunus amygdalus) belongs to the botanical genus of Prunus. It is a deciduous tree whose height varies between 4 to 12 meters. It shows an extremely early flowering, although late-flowering almonds varieties have also been developed. It grows in different soil types depending on the rootstock on which the desired Almond variety has been grafting. In general, it can be said that Almond trees are very resistant to drought and are well suited to the Mediterranean climate type but not to areas where frosts are observed when the bud begin to develope. The Almond begins to make fruit from the 3rd to the 5th year, comes in full fruit production in the 8th to 9th and continues to produce until the age of 70 years.
