African Boxwood (Myrsine africana) Shrub - Flowering Shrubs. The African Boxwood botanically belongs to the family Primulaceae. It is native to various regions of Asia, Africa and the Azores. It is a small to medium-sized shrub, perennial and evergreen, growing up to 2 m high. It has a slow growth rate, an erect habit and a globular shape. Its fragrant leaves are simple, dark green in colour, orbicular to elliptic or obovate in shape, having a glossy texture, with fine toothed margins. The flowering of the plant is observed in early summer. The dioecious flowers are of no ornamental value. They are followed by round red fruits. The African Boxwood is fairly easy to grow. It can be established in a variety of outdoor environments as it adapts to almost any soil type as long as it has excellent drainage. It can be used both in gardening and in landscape architecture, planted as soecimen, in groups and in compositions with other plants. It is also pruned into any shape, replacing the boxwood (Buxus). Moreover, thanks to its high resistance to salt sprays, it is even planted in seaside gardens.
► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the plant, such as the size of the pot, its height, age and shape. Large plants are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
