The Sea Thrift (Armeria maritima) botanically belongs to the family Plumbaginaceae. It is a herbaceous, perennial, evergreen and spreading plant, of medium growth rate. It has a tufted appearance, round shape, linear leaves of dark green color while at the end of Spring until Summer it presents globose very decorative inflorescences that have pink-purple (or white - depending on the variety) flowers. The Sea Thrift is an easy-to-grow herbaceous, has no serious problems with pests or diseases, and requires minimal care. Whith the exeption of heavy clays, it can be planted in a variety of other cool type soils that drain well. It withstands drought, frost and low temperatures and is an excellent choice as a flowering plant for coastal planting due to its high resistance to salt droplets. It is also used in gardens - alone or in combination with other ornaments - and in pots or planters.
