The Crane Flower or Bird of Paradise, is an evergreen perennial herb with large leaves that resemble those of a banana. It blooms sporadically all year round, but mainly from mid-Spring to mid-Autumn, with stunningly beautiful orange and blue flowers that have the shape of a bird's head - hence the common name of the Bird of Paradise. It is an easy-to-grow plant, growing in any soil rich in organic matter that drains, and in areas where there is no frost in winter. It wants sunny places, but the warmer the planting areas the better it is placed in the shade. The Crane Flower or Bird of Paradise is also used as a flowering indoor plant.
