Common Hyacinths adapt to varius types of soil and sunny or half-shade places while flowering in mid of spring. Common Hyacinths bulbs can be planted in the garden or in a pot and planter. The Utilization of Hyacinths

The Common Hyacinths with the richness of the colors of their flowers and the ease of their cultivation, belong to the much-loved bulbous plants. The fact that many varieties have flowers with extremely attractive flavor also contributes to this.

Hyacinths bloom without difficulty and bloom profusely. Each flowering stalk has a varied number of florets, so each flower can grow up to 60 to 70 florets. The number of flowers depends on the size of the bulbs - the larger the bulbs the more florets and vice versa.

For planting Hyacinths in the garden the bulb sizes 15/16 and 16/17 are preferable. The largest of these are suitable for planting and "forcing" indoors, where the flowering stalks can withstand the weight of the flowers, without the risk of being damaged by strong winds or other weather conditions.

Hyacinth bulbs are usually used for only one year, but if left in the garden until they wither completely, in the second year they will bloom again, albeit with smaller flowers.

In order to achieve this, it is recommended that after flowering the flowering stems to cut off from their base, and the hyacinth plants to left for 1 to 1½ month afterwards in the garden. If the soil temperatures during this time are at least 20 °C, then the bulbs for the coming years will be able to bloom. Alternatively, it is always possible, after the end of flowering, to remove the bulbs from the ground and store them. Attractive inflorescence, however, depends not only on the cultivation technique but also on the selected varieties, as some of them can bloom for a whole five years.

In addition to the garden soil, hyacinths are also suitable for planting in pots and almost any type of planter. They can be combined with various ornamental herbaceous and bulbous plants, such as Tulips, Narcissus with small flower, but also the ornamental Cabbages.
