The Bear's Breeches is a rhizomatous perennial plant, which holds a special place in Greek civilization: its leaves were a source of inspiration for the sculptor Callimachus, who created the Corinthian capital. The plant has a spherical shape and a dense crown. Its leaves are large, reaching up to 50 cm long, deeply lobate, intensely green in color. They come mainly from the sides of the central rhizome in a rosette arrangement. From the rosette, the long flowering stem with the abundant and particularly impressive flowers emerges vertically. The color of the flowers is white and purple-red, and the flowering period starts from the end of spring and lasts until July. If the plant finds enough moisture it keeps the foliage all year round. Otherwise, shortly after the end of the flowering it throws all its leaves. Acanthus mollis does not have any difficulty in cultivating it. It grows in all light to medium texture soils, even in the poor and calcareous, as long as they have excellent drainage. Once established, lives for many years as it does not face serious problems from pestss and diseases. Sometimes the snails can eat their leaf but are easily treated with the appropriate formulation. Plant of exceptional ornamentation, Bear's Breeches is a classic choice for any Mediterranean type garden.
► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the plant, such as the size of the pot, its height, age and shape. Large shrubs are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
