Red Water Lily (Nymphaea 'Marliacea Attraction'-syn. Nymphaea x marliacea 'Attraction') Aquatic Plant - Aquatic, Pond & Wetland Plants. Perennial deciduous herbaceous and rhizomatous aquatic plant of considerable decorative value, suitable for medium to deep ponds. It is included in the genus Nymphaea which belongs to the family Nymphaeaceae. The now classic hybrid variety 'Marliacea Attraction' - of unknown parentage - is a product of the breeding work of the 19th century French lawyer and horticulturalist Joseph Bory Latour-Marliac. The variety entered the market in 1910, a few years after the breeder had staged the famous water lily display at the Exposition Universelle in the French capital in 1899. The moderate growth rate Nymphaea x marliacea 'Attraction' has oval copper-green leaves when young and green when mature. It blooms profusely from mid-Spring to mid-Summer, with wonderful double, fragrant large cup- to star-shaped flowers, which have Red petals with yellow stamens. It is extremely resistant and easy to grow if planted in the right environment. The Red Water Lily (Nymphaea 'Marliacea Attraction') is propagated by offshoots or rhizome division. The plant is placed in ponds 45 to 75 cm deep. As for the Exposition Universelle of 1899 in Paris, it is worth noting that it was a source of inspiration for the great French impressionist painter Claude Monet, who depicted plants in his Les Nymphéas series of works.
Note:Each package contains the planting basket (1x 18cm x 18cm x 12cm - LxWxH), 1x Water Lily, special pond soil mix and gravel.
