(Paeonia × suffruticosa)
The tree peony (Paeonia × suffruticosa) is a species of hybrid origin, which has been cultivated for hundreds of years in China. These are perennial and deciduous woody plants, which despite the fact that they are called "tree", are in reality shrubs of erect habit and medium size. Tree peonies are relatively easy to grow, planted in the garden or in pots in sunny or semi-shady places, and in fertile soil, rich in organic matter, which is moist but has excellent drainage. The available varieties of peony trees bloom mainly in spring, bearing large flowers 15 to 20 cm in diameter, with colors red, violet, pink, orange, white and yellow.
