The Swiss Cheese Plant or Philodendron (Monstera deliciosa - syn. Philodendron pertusum) is in its natural state an epiphytic climbing of large dimensions, but as an indoor plant it has a bushy form and medium dimensions. The main ornamental element of the plant is its huge leathery heart-shaped leaves, which initially appear intact, but as a product of time they show characteristic openings, justifying its English common name which is "Swiss Cheese" (Swiss Cheese Plant). The Swiss Cheese Plant is a plant of average care requirements, placed in bright or partially shaded sites, and it is recommended to spray and clean its leaves with water for its smooth growth. It may need support, and where climatic conditions allow it can be comfortably planted in garden soil.
