Chaste Tree (Vitex agnus-castus) Shrub - Flowering Shrubs. The Chaste Tree botanically belongs to the Mint family (Lamiaceae or Labiatae). It is native to various regions of southern Europe, the Mediterranean Basin and western Asia. It is a large shrub (or small tree), perennial and deciduous, with a height of up to 5 m. It has a fast growth rate, an erect habit and a spherical shape. Its fragrant leaves are opposite arranged, dark green in colour, palmately compound, consisting of 5 leaflets of an elliptic-lanceolate shape, smooth-textured, with entire margins. The plant flowers from late summer to mid-autumn. Its monoecious, fragrant flowers, borne on thyrse inflorescences, are violet-lilac in colour and tubular in shape. The Chaste Tree is fairly easy to grow. It tolerates both very high and fairly low temperatures, salinity as well as drought. Its growth is favoured when placed in sunny areas, and clay soils with excellent drainage. It can be used both in gardening and in landscape architecture, planted as specimen, in groups and in compositions with other plants. Thanks to its resistance to salt sprays, it can even adorn seaside gardens. It is also an excellent melliferous plant and an effective herb for the female hormonal system.
► It is offered at a price determined by the particular characteristics of the plant, such as the size of the pot, its height, age and shape. Large plants are also available for sale (and planting) upon prior arrangement. In any case, the price or prices listed are indicative.
