Fenugreek Seeds 50g Bucket (Trigonella foenum-graecum). Fenugreek belongs botanically to the Fabaceae family. It is used as a herb, spice, and even as a vegetable. Its edible seeds have an aroma similar to that of celery, but when ground they have a pastrami-like smell. It is an annual species, which grows to a height of about 0,6 m and a diameter of 0,3 m. It has compound leaves, consisting of 3 small, obovoid leaflets, and fragrant white flowers with blue spots, which appear from June to September. The plant starts to bear fruit in August and continues to October. Fenugreek is easy to grow since it adapts to almost any soil type of acidic to neutral reaction, as long as it drains well. It has virtually no pest or disease problems. Planting a stremma by hand requires about 2kg of seed, while using a seeder requires about 250g. The yield in fruit is between 50 and 60 kg per stremma. Note that the cultivation of fenugreek enriches the soil with nitrogen.
